Natixis CIB Supports Australia's Largest Ever Public Private Partnership: Melbourne's Much Anticipated North East Link

November 4, 2021

Natixis acted as Mandated Lead Arranger and Hedge Provider to a consortium of sponsors comprising Lendlease/Capella Capital, John Laing, DIF Capital Partners, WeBuild, GS Engineering and Construction, and Pacific Partnerships, for the development of the North East Link’s Primary Package.

The $11.1 billion North East Link Primary Package is the largest ever public-private partnership (PPP) in Australian history and the largest transport project ever in the State of Victoria. Designed to change the way people move around Melbourne, it will provide 6.5kms of threelane twin tunnels that will pass under the Banyule Flats and Yarra River, to close the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network. Up to 135,000 vehicles will use North East Link every day, reducing congestion in the north-east while maintaining local roads for local trips.

Further, it will provide a series of tunnel systems, intelligent transport systems, tolling infrastructure, noise walls, shared use paths and associated infrastructure.

Construction will commence later this year and the project is expected to complete year-end 2028.
